COUNTY OF MLADÁ BOLESLAV
Mladá Boleslav county is placed in the north-east part of middle Bohemia, not far from Prague. Thanks to its good placement and wealth of natural and architectonic monuments, it is the place, which is going to attract many visitors.While the south part of the region is full of fertile land, it passes into travelers´ very attractive rocky area of "Český ráj" (Czech paradise) in the north-east.
Sandstone rocks create rocky cities full of bizarre formations with pavements and tunels, which can lead you to outlooks, rocky castles and leisure places. Axis of the county is an abundantly meandring Jizera river. There are many medieval castles on the banks of the river, which turned into ruins through the ages (Michalovice, Zvířetice, Dražice) or were rebuilt into renaissance or baroque chateaus. There are the biggest cities of the county on the Jizera river. "Mladá Boleslav", with its formerly gothic castle (where is the county museum), one of the most advanced Europe´s car factory. "Mnichovo Hradiště" - place where a famous 30 year war army leader Albrecht from Valdštejn rests in peace - with its formerly renaissance chateau. Visitors of this chateau can see original interior, Delft faience and enter Valdštejns´ library from "Duchcov", conducted by the famous Giacommo Casanova in the 18th century. "Benátky nad Jizerou" connected with danish astronomer, who spent some time on its chateau under the reign of Rudolf II. From other cities we can mention "Kosmonosy" with baroque Loreta and chateau, "Bakov nad Jizerou" with beautiful natural swimming pool, "Dobrovice" where the most precious monument is renaissane town hall, "Dolní Bousov" - entering gate to south part of "Český ráj". North-west part of the region with city of "Bělá pod Bezdězem" leads you to the romantic Mácha´s region where is a renaissance chateau with ethnograph museum. Gothic castle "Bezděz" standing over the city is a dominant for neighbourhood. County of "Mladá Boleslav" is full of monuments of folk architecture. Among the others we can mention for instance belfry in "Sudoměř", "Horní Strakory" and "Plazy", walled gates in "Vrátno", traditional cottages in "Březno", forge in "Žďár" or mills in "Vicmanov" and "Střehom". Those who like religion buildings will be attracted by romanesque churches in "Vinice" and "Mohelnice nad Jizerou", gothic-renaissance church on "Sýčina", baroque chapel of St.Anne in "Mnichovo Hradiště" and many more. County of "Mladá Boleslav" is a place where beauty of old monuments meet the presence in beautiful nature.
